Genuine Mose Tolliver Very Unique Bus Painting Southern Folk Art Incredible Rare. This painting is the perfect size; 26 x 9 1/2 x 1 1/2. Not too big, not too small. This painting is unique in several ways. Mose made several differing bus paintings but this is by far the most special. Not only is this one framed, but the frame is adorned with flattened bottle caps. The paint used in this work are bright and vibrant, which Mose fans understand was not always the case. The people riding the bus are all different colors, which in most other bus paintings they were all uniform in color. The frame surrounding the painting is attached very securely with both nails and some type of glue. The frame has flattened beer bottles caps nailed to it, all of which though fastened securely still freely spin and/or move. Though many of his paintings included a soda can tab to use to hang them, this painting has an actual picture hanger nailed to the back of it. I dont know for a fact that Mose installed this hanger, but I havent been told otherwise. Will be packaged securely with plenty of padding protection. This painting is genuine, and comes from a collection of other Mose Tolliver paintings and Joe Light paintings. See other listings or inquire if interested. Mose Tolliver Afican American Folk Art SELF PORTRAIT Painting, 1989, 24x24

Mose was very proud of this painting, saying It looks just like me, don’t it! This one is unique and rare as hens teeth! It does posses a Zen like simplicity and strength. Head in profile and eyes looking forward makes for a unique reorganization of the face parts. Also notice the wonderful effect that Mose achieved by putting wet paint on top of other wet paint caused in the floating dot blobs. I acquired this painting and some others directly from Mose in Montgomery, Alabama in the summer of 1989. It is signed his typical backward S style and it has a pop top tab hanger. His former employer encouraged him to start painting, and Tolliver began to create images with house paint on pieces of plywood, Masonite, or old furniture. Unable to stand without crutches, he sat on his bed to paint, placing the board on his knees. Then in the 1980s Mose had a solo show at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, and was included in a folk art exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery, in Washington, D. His work is in the Collection of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art and numerous other public and private collections.
