Folk Art Early Sewing Ballot Box Painted Carved

Wonderful early folk art box measures 11″ x 9 1/2″ x 6 and is made of heavy wood and is close to 5 LBS. Beautifully hand made with great detail and great patina. Not sure the original use, perhaps a sewing box, or ballot box? It has 2 swing handles on the sides, and a drawer on the end. The drawer opens (a bit tight), and the drawer pull is missing. On the top of the box is a post that may have held a spool of thread or yarn and a small box with dividers, (one is lose), with great painting of stars and blue and white design. This box is incredibly made with great details and is all original. There are some chips in the spool holder and the circle on the top of the box, so please see the pictures for the description of the condition. A really great find! Thank you for looking! Antique Tunbridge Ware Sewing Box circa 1800. Tunbridge Ware Cottage Sewing Box. Made of solid sycamore. The Cottage sewing box is painted more finely than most we have seen and quite sweet with mother & child. The front also features mullioned windows, stable door with a cat sat on the top, foliage, thatched roof and a tiny bird in its cage. The sides and back also have windows and more foliage. The interior of this sweet little cottage sewing box is lined with blue paper and features a removable tray which has a pin cushion, spool compartments and a needle book. Underneath this is storage space for various sewing items. This antique cottage sewing box comes with a working lock and tasselled key. 5.5inch high x 8inch wide x 5inch deep.
