Auctions is pleased to offer a superb folk art votive painting depicting an Angel or The Christ Child. This superb example is painting on canvas and mounted on board. CIRCA LATE 1700s-early 1800s. FRAME: 9 x 5 inches. CORRECT SIZE: 6 1/2 x 5 1/4. This is the stunning original hand-carved gesso and gilt painted pine frame. Showing wear commensurate with age, and dates probably to the late 18th or early 19th century. There was however non-original tape on the back which I removed. Will need some new nails on the back for conservation. The painting has some wear and patina on it as well. Painting is on canvas and mounted on pine board. See photos for details. This has not been restored. It was previously owned by an antique dealer picked up items on her travels in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. She was a collector of religious art.
