An awesome naive folk art painting that captures a bit of Texas roadside Americana with its depiction of Peter’s Barbeque in Ellinger, Texas, which is a regular stop for many people travelling Highway 71 while on the way between Austin from Houston. It’s a popular and iconic eatery to this day. This painting captures it as it looked a few decades ago (although it hasn’t changed much)! The artist, Sandra Winkler, portrays this iconic landmark in her own unique style showing the view from the side of Highway 71. It is is a one-of-a-kind piece and painted on canvas, and framed in a vintage wooden frame. The small size and framed presentation make it a perfect addition to any Texana or Americana collection, or for someone from Houston or Austin that knows and loves the little roadside pit stop of Ellinger. Signed by the artist, this original painting is a contemporary piece produced in the 1980s. The subject matter includes “famous places, city life, architecture, food and drink, and towns”, all of which are beautifully combined in this great little folk art painting. This is a wonderful piece of Folk Art or painted art from a roadside stand in Indiana. This ear of corn is hand painted on an old wooden ironing board and was hung on a wall as a trade sign for a corn farm stand. This is a unique one of a kind piece of art. The sign dates from somewhere in the early to mid 20th century and is in wonderful condition. The surface shows some age and the mounting holes show very wear which indicates that the sign would have been taken down in the off season. The ear of corn is 53 7/8″ tall x 15″ wide and could be hung both vertically or horizontally. Like us on face book. What a fun sign, painted solid wood with an old worn surface. The one side that faced the weather is more faded than the other, as would be expected. The shape is great as is the detail of the painted surface. I think next to Pennsylvania, New Jersey might have the most roadside stands and markets. And Jersey corn is almost as good as PA’s. Uh oh, gonna get some comments. A great piece of Americana and folk art. The sign is 45″ long x 12″ high x 3/4 thick and has two iron loops to hang it by. Got this from a guy from New Jersey in a field, how appropriate. Like us on face book.
