Has recaptured his own life experiences growing up in the rural eastern shore of Maryland in the 1930’s and 1940’s as a young migrant laborer. Born in a labor camp in 1932, self-taught artist Alphonso Willums painted his experiences growing up in North Carolina in the 1930’s and 1940s. Willums’ art is owned and exhibited by the Maryland Historical Society, Universities, and Restaurants, but it was largely a cathartic activity he was reluctant to commercialize. Artist signed original oil painting on 12″ x 16″ canvas wrapped panel, canvas size fits ready-made frames – no need for custom framing. This painting is in excellent condition.

Willums was born in 1932 on the eastern shore of Maryland. The Maryland Historical Society owns one of his paintings, titled “The Strawberry Checkout”. Oil on canvas board. African American Outsider Artist. Williums is know to have painted memories of his own experiences growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This painting is signed by the artist. Oil on canvas signed lower left and titled “London Bridge” on the reverse. Painting measures 6″ by 8″. Also included is a story of the painting by the artist. Willums paints scenes from his childhood growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the 1930s and 1940s.
