Mid Century Acrylic Painting “Sharecropper” by Charles Knox. With an emphasis on expression over realism, this Charles Knox painting vividly portrays the worry on this sharecroppers face. A textured paint technique creates layers of depth and adds dimension. Knox has a raw, immediate quality to his brushwork that indicates he was painting outside of traditional art school conventions. While the exact year “Sharecropper” was painted is unknown, the simple wood frame and linen matting are indicative of a mid century origin, perhaps between 1965 and 1974.
