This is an excellent c1840 American oxblood red grain painted primitive frame. Beautiful original surface on canted molding with folky painted’grain’ and’swathes’ all done to imitate the expensive crotch mahogany of the period. Square nailed, mitered corners and painted sides. Frame is in excellent condition with only minor wear and measures 14 x 17 1/2 with an 11 x 14 1/2 rabbet. A fantastic period grain painted frame. AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART WOOD STEPBACK CABINET CUPBOARD ORIGINAL OXBLOOD RED PAINT. Up for sale is this fabulous old primitive cabinet or cupboard. It’s a nice old stepback cabinet. It’s a solid single-door cabinet below with two shelves above. We don’t know how old it is, but it looks early 1800’s to us! The cabinet has beautiful oxblood red paint. This old cabinet is a survivor. The back is made from four boards and has square nails as you can see in the pictures. The door works nicely and and wooden thumbturn to hold it shut and a wooden knob to open it. The hinges are old and may not be original to the piece. Whether or not they are original they’ve been moved over time and there are a number of holes where the hinges used to be. It’s a wonderful dry wood and is oxblood red in color with old worn paint. The paint appears to be all original on the front and one side. The other side and back are not painted. The front paint is dry, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge. The inside looks all original with great patina too! There are old newspapers inside that may have been used to line the shelves at one point. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look!! We don’t know the age or origin of this cabinet but we do know that it’s special!! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close-up ones. It’s a great old cabinet/cupboard!! The cabinet measures 72.5″ H x 37.5″ W at the base and 39.5″ W at the middle shelf x 13.75″ D at the bottom. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a great cabinet! This is a rare find. An amazing large c1840 American painted portrait frame. Beautiful original, dry, crackled oxblood red surface on 3 3/8 wide molding with pine base. Paint retention is excellent as is the overall condition. Solid lap joint construction with mitered corners. Measures 30 7/8 x 36 1/2 with a 25 x 30 3/8 rabbet.
