Antique 19th C. Oil On Canvas Landscape Painting Maiden with Geese Signed G. Grant

You are viewing an antique oil on canvas of a summer landscape of haystacks, an open field with a maiden tending to a flock of geese. No holes or tears. Two older professional repairs on group of tree’s foliage (see last photo), otherwise the canvas is in good condition. Framed in a gilded wood ornate frame measuring 20 inches in height and 24 inches in width. Some professional restoration to one side of the inner frame. Canvas alone is 16″ X 20″. Written above the scenes on each side is some advice. Come Home For Love. Signed on bottom: Joan 2002. Measures: 5 7/8″ high x 7 1/2″ wide x 5 1/2 ” deep (not including the heart which adds another 5/8″ to the height). Antique Folk Art Eagle US Grant Banner Fraktur Painting Henry Lapp Lancaster PA

Though Henry Lapp is a noted Amish, Lancaster County cabinet maker and folk painter, it is his insatiable color that proves so memorable. Born deaf, perhaps limited communication served his imagination – a freedom is surely evident here. Commemorating the Ulysses S. Grant / Schuyler Colfax presidency of the time, signed and dated 1874. Measures 9 x 21, pinholes (a few appear at the head of the eagle) and small breaks along original folds, some staining. Very simply, a show stopper.
