This antique American tramp art picture frame takes a very unusual and folky shape, rather than using endless rows of rectangular pyramids as most often seen. The maker had a really fine sense of design! Instead of the typical diagonal notches in square-edged layers, these edges are beveled and grooved, creating a fluted effect. The old original shiny varnish is somewhat blistered, forming an attractive patina. There is a rare and perfectly intact carved wooden hanger at top. Although missing several tip pieces, it presents and displays very well, the losses long since oxidized to blend in. Be sure to look carefully at the pictures. The frame is 9 1/2″ x 8″ with a 5 1/2″ x 4″ opening. Main photo shows the truest colors.
