Antique 19thC American Sailor Made Folk Art Nautical Painted Decorated Wood Box.. Constructed from white pine, this 19. Century Folk Art Box is constructed with small cut-nails. It measures 12″ long by 5″ tall by 8 wide. On the front are the initials “BI” and on the top is a miniature seascape painting with a sailboat and lighthouse. On either side of the box is a small painting of a naval Cutlass and a Cap & Ball Musket. These paintings are on a faux grain painted panel with a fine pinstriped border. The condition of the paint is excellent but there is a curved ring on the top where something round was placed. There are no other problems or restorations to the original folk art painted surface. Inside still retains its original bright, tangerine orange velvet. The bottom probably had a removable tray. We are listing this sailor made Folk Art Painted Box without any reserve.
