Here is a painting of a mother and daughter seated with books in front of the type of setting most popular around 1815 or so. An architectural column and flowing red drapery are the backdrop of this setting, with the two subjects seated at a table. This painting has a good deal of cracquelure and age showing, there are some losses as well. A while ago I had it cleaned and re-varnished to secure everything to the canvas. Canvas size is 17″ x 13″.

The princess in this painting looks like the daughter of a Scottish, Laird. Her hair is long, red, and thick, a characteristic of many Scottish. The background could be Midlothian House, a notable estate by the established gentry. But it could be any one of the famed castle / estates in Scottland. It is a beautiful painting and well framed. Both painting and the frame are in excellent conditon. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. The seller is “nyckelharpabuilder” and is located in this country: US. Here is a wonderful primitive 19th Century watercolor of a mother and her child from Maine 1830. As you can see there is plenty of color and detail in the watercolor. There is a beautiful decorated carpet at their feet. It is in its original grain painted frame. The backing was removed and updated to an acid free black mat and archival corners. The size of the watercolor is 9 X 10 1/2. ” The frame is 12 3/4″ 14 5/8. Provenance is from the Lynn Dingus Collection in Ohio. That is her label on the back of the watercolor. The Folk Artist has finely hand painted the details in gold and the gentleman’s hair in white. Unsigned, this large Folk Art Silhouette is in original clean condition and come in the original 10 5/8″ by 12 3/8″, gilded brass of wood frame.
