Antique Religious Folk Art Painting on Cloth Theorem Jesus Crucifix with Flowers

Sweet naively painted Jesus on the cross surrounded by flowers. Great look, interesting cloth matting, spots of damage adding to character and strutting to age, nice old alligator surface on frame. Please use photos and zoom feature for most accurate condition. Measures about 21″ by 17.5″. Please get them approved before purchasing. Any questions must be answered before the sale. Almost everything I offer is old and has likely spent time in a basement or garage. I do my best to get back to everyone in a timely fashion. Vintage Mexican Folk Art CROSS Wooden Great Old Paint Crucifix Retablo

This lovely vintage Mexican wooden cross stands just short of 20 tall x about 7 wide x 4.75 deep. Its got wonderful old, soft blue-green and silver paint and an old lithograph print of the Virgin Mary and Christ child behind glass. Theres a minor crack in the base near the bottom of the cross (please see photos) and some holes at each corner of the base where something may have been at one time. The paint has staining and discoloration here and there, and the glass is quite dusty/dirty but I always just left it that way as it seemed in keeping with the rest of the cross. Please take a close look at the photos to ascertain condition for yourself. Its a wonderful old piece, one that Ive loved very much. I really hope youll love it, too. Ill remove the cross portion for the purposes of less expensive shippingit’s got a small peg at the bottom that fits into the base, so should be easy enough to re-attach. I dont want to create a hassle for anyone but I do want to make sure you get your package safely. Thanks so much for understanding. Moses Tolliver (Mose T) folk art painting baby Jesus on crucifix with birds

Moses Tolliver (1918 to 2006) who painted under the name Mose T, with a backward s, is considered one of the founding figures of what became known as Outsider Art. He grew up in rural Alabama and taught himself to paint, because he didnt learn to read until later in life. He crushed his foot while working in a warehouse, and began to paint for a living even before he was discovered by art critics and galleries. He usually painted in house paint on plywood or discarded boards, whimsical and sometimes erotic pictures of animals, humans, and flora, watermelons and birds. His work has been displayed at the White House, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and many other museums and galleries. Several Tolliver relatives have imitated his style and signed their work with his name. 22 inches long, 16 inches across at cross, plywood. This extraordinarily charming late 1800s-early 1900s all wood, hand carved and painted crucifix measures 13 3/8 x 8 ¼ overall with a corpus measuring 7 ½ head to toe. It is largely untouched with worn and chipped paint history that is stable and shows several layers of color. The latest has some vivid red accents and a painted skull and cross bones under Jesus feet. There is no insect damage and only minor splits and repairs. Century Folk Art Carvings. The antique Crucifix measures 9 ½” wide by 4 ½” at the base, and the overall height to the top of the Cross is 20 ½. Over the years the original paint has worn away plus the tiny separate hands on Mother Mary and one of the Saints are missing. There also are some fingers missing from the Crucified Jesus. The second antique Spanish Colonial Carving depicts Jesus as a young man. He is standing on a 4 ¼” by 5″ painted base, and the overall height is 13.
