Executed in expressive brushwork and fluid line, these paintings evoke the spontaneous energy of sketchbook studies while maintaining a distinctly poetic and introspective presence. The works explore spiritual and humanistic themes through loose abstraction and gestural mark-making. Subjects include “Mountain God, ” a tender “Madonna and Child #2, ” and an evocative seated figure accompanied by handwritten text. The combination of ink linework, translucent watercolor washes, and handwritten annotations gives the collection a strong studio-art sensibility reminiscent of mid-century expressionism, outsider art, and Beat-era illustration. Presented in matching black gallery frames with white mats, the trio displays beautifully together as a cohesive installation. Visible undulation to the watercolor paper is present throughout and consistent with original hand-painted works on textured paper. Signed and dated: “Mountain God, ” 1973 “Madonna and Child #2, ” 1975 Seated figure composition, dated 1973.
