1865 Civil War Era Painting Black African American Woman w/ Bowler Hat Folk Art. Feel free to submit an offer. This has been in storage for over 40 years! 21 photos in the listing. I believe it is signed William Petty, 1865 but I may be off on the signature. It could also be Pitty, Getty, Betty, Gitty, Bitty or something else entirely. Really incredible painting of an African American woman wearing a bowler hat. The colors are very complex. Definitely completed by a skilled hand. I believe the frame is gilded, but don’t know for sure. Minor wear in a few spots as shown, but overall the frame is gorgeous. The painting could use a cleaning; especially the removal of an old spill shown to the right of the hat. Open to showing this incredible piece in person by appointment.
