GREAT PAINT DECORATED TRAVEL TRUNK. About 24″ x 12″ x 10. Wonderful folk art polychrome sponge painted storage chest. Sponge painted bands with splashes and squiggles in mostly yellow and black on a rust red background. Lined with newspapers dated 1830. Some surface roughage commensurate with age and use. TERRIFIC PAINT DECORATED TRAVEL TRUNK. About 20 1/4″ x 10″ x 10. Beautiful paint decorated dome top travel / storage trunk. Hand painted double arched panels on the sides and front, with images of tulips and other flowers in a vase, surrounded by curling vine flourishes. Similar panels on the lid ends. Maroon painted background on the body, dark blue on the dome top. Brass butt hinges and brass painted iron lock hardware (no key). Light cream interior, matching the background of the panels. Some minor paint loss, particularly around the edges, commensurate with age and use. Age drying crack in the lid (all visible in the images). A FINE EXAMPLE OF A 19TH CENTURY FOLK ART PAINTED TRUNK. Antique Danish 1725 Dowry Wedding Chest Trunk w Painted Folk Art 295 YEARS OLD

Recently brought over from Scandinavia. A Beautiful Example of a Danish Wedding Trunk Chest. Dated On the front 1725. Beautiful folk art painted motifs on the front panels. UNBELIEVABLE CONDITION for being 295 YEARS OLD! The trunk is covered in hand carved designs throughout. The Hardware has been repainted. The base of the trunk had been reinforced at each corner with triangle blocks. Iron strapping with heavy iron handles. The boards are super old and appears that newer nails were used in some places to secure them. Opens and closes perfectly. There is no key. The interior is in great condition with a side box and a small shelf located below the box. The trunk is super large and super heavy. There are some 4 2×4 blocks that were secured underneath the chest to solidify it before we bought it. It is very old and that keeps the Dovetail joints in place. H 40 with the base. Wo base 26 1/2. Up for sale is a high quality antique handmade wooden Folk Art cigar humidor box. It’s made with exquisite detailing throughout out of dense wood and has a leather wrapped domed lid wrapped in leather. The leather is painted with a figural knight scene and fastened with large brass studs. The box is also painted on each side with gorgeous design done in rich color. It has dimensional mounted cold painted praying figures on each corner along with 4 outward facing lions. The handle pivots up and down on a ball joint exposing the hidden key lock underneath. It opens on a hinge and features a removable handmade toleware box that has a compartment for a humidor block under the lid. The box is in nice condition, has acquired a lovely patina from age, and measures 14 1/2 inches long by 12 1/2 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Antique French Dowry Chest Hand Painted Wedding Chest Folk Art Wedding Trunk

This is an antique French wedding chest, made of pinewood. This wedding trunk dates from the 19th century and is hand painted on all sides in a soft, spring green color (except for the back of the trunk, which has been repainted in the past, since it has a darker green color). The top of this French dowry chest features two painted floral wreaths with two initials in it (L & H) and the front and both short sides feature colorful, hand painted flower bouquets and floral designs. The bridal chest is in pretty good condition with wear, consistent with age and use; the originial lock is missing, the top of the chest has two large cracks and a chunk of wood missing, the paint has faded in some places, the bottom is a bit loose and there are traces of paint loss, splits, cracks, scuffs, chips, scratches, old woodworm holes (which have been treated) and general wear. It measures 24″ long x 12.2″ wide x 10.4 tall (61 cm x 31 cm x 26.5 cm). Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880’s A wonderful small Norwegian kiste, or dome top blanket chest with a nicely decorated decoration on the front and dome topped with a beautiful comb paint surrounding the rest of the chest. Rosemaling (rose painting) designs and lettering. A lock is present as is the key which is a giant plus. The outer edge of this box has text painted in black. The early script is defining this as Norwegian…. If I’m incorrect please let me know. The piece is painted in the traditional manner of decorated items familiar to this era and regions. It has a natural interior with wonderful heavy ironwork hinges. Ironwork and peg construction can be seen in close-up photo. The dome top is decorated with a strong design consisting. The chest is 15 by 10 by 9.5 The overall condition of the piece is quite good and again, so very attractive. It is structurally very solid and well built. The top is still tightly attached and the hinges are holding strong. One decorative interior iron looks as the tip is broken off. The painted surface is in excellent condition although the piece has an early, old re-paint over the original by the owners descendants, and shows a light coat of shellacking and as a result protected the surface through the many years. My flash doesn’t due the piece justice. This box is as nice as they get. Very hard to find and you will wait a long time before you find another this appealing and with a working lock and key.
