Aafa Folk Art Early Primitive Antique Old Wood Grey Original Paint Tote Tray
AAFA FOLK ART EARLY PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE OLD WOOD GREY ORIGINAL PAINT TOTE TRAY. Up for sale is this old antique tote with a handle. It’s wood and has splayed sides and a handle cut out on in the middle carry it by. It’s a low tray and has old grey paint with more paint remaining on the outside and a darker patine on the inside. You can see lots of wood color under the missing paint. On one end, near the handle, there’s a notch out of the end wood. Below the notch there’s another little hole. We’re not sure what these were for, perhaps a drain? , but they appear to have been intentional. There’s also a saw cut on this end where perhaps they started another notch and stopped. On the other end, right next to the handle there’s a slot. The nails are rusty but appear to all be round. There is a lot of edge wear, paint loss, nicks, scrapes, splatters, scratches, and dings. There is also a lot of iron spotting around the nails. On the bottom there is some green paint here and there. This looks to be something it may have been set in rather than paint that it was painted, but we’re not sure. All of these “issues” are just as you’d expect from an item of this age. 25.5 L x 12.25 W x 3.5 H to rim x 7.5 H to handle. It’s a very nice piece for your collection. XL Antique Vtg WOOD 2-Handle SERVING TRAY withFruit Bowl THEOREM Folk Art PAINTING
This beautifully crafted, extra-large mahogany wood tray features a terrific Theorem painting under glass. The quality of both tray and artwork are exceptional. As the magnified photos depict, the tray’s wood handles are 8-sided, mounted with solid brass hardware, and feature brass end caps. The painting is signed C. As with most traditional Theorem folk art, it is oil painted on soft velvet fabric. Colors are rich and the composition effectively creates 3-dimensional impact by the use of many different handmade stencils. The still life Tablescape features a central, Asian-themed bowl with many finely-detailed fruits and foliage. CONDITION: Mahogany wood gleams. The tray is strong, sturdy and very substantial. One corner seam is not as tight as the others, but this has no impact on its’ structural integrity. Handles are securely attached. Wood has some small nicks, and surface wear as to be expected for its age, but these are few and all are minor. The artwork is in excellent condition. There imagery has no spots, fading, paint loss, or discoloration. The glass is fully intact, very clear and without scratches. There is no dust or particles trapped between glass and art. The bottom of the tray has a relatively new backing of heavy black paper. This is typical for wall-hanging artwork -which might have been the reason for its use. A backing of felt would be more appropriate if the piece is to be used as a serving tray -an easy fix. This is a very clean and completely odor-free item. Ready to use, display and admire. Stencils are overlaid to create. Three-dimensional, very distinctive, primitive-style artwork. The design is bridgelessthere are no gaps in between the overlays. Subjects often included foods, scenes, and symbols that were popular in the artist’s geographic area. A vogue for theorem stencil painting began in England at the turn of the 18th century. Old Antique Vtg 19th C Folk Art Stenciled Tole Painted Tin Serving Tray Toleware
This offering is for a 19th century folk art stenciled tin tole painted tray. The stenciled decoration is wonderful depicting a man, a woman and a dog in an outdoor wooded setting with a house in the background. The tray measures app. 17.5″ by 21″ and the condition is outstanding with very light wear, crazing and fading to the colors. There is very very minor loss to the painted decorations and there are no dents, bends or rust. The decoration is bold and lively giving the tray a charming appeal.
