An antique 19th century watercolor painting on paper measuring approximately 10 3/8 x 8 inches (visible) behind glass in a wood frame measuring approximately 16 5/8 x 14 1/8 inches as a complete piece. The frame is original based on the age of the nails and the wood backing and the former have never been removed. One of the four flowers has some loss as pictured. XL Antique Vtg WOOD 2-Handle SERVING TRAY withFruit Bowl THEOREM Folk Art PAINTING

This beautifully crafted, extra-large mahogany wood tray features a terrific Theorem painting under glass. The quality of both tray and artwork are exceptional. As the magnified photos depict, the tray’s wood handles are 8-sided, mounted with solid brass hardware, and feature brass end caps. The painting is signed C. As with most traditional Theorem folk art, it is oil painted on soft velvet fabric. Colors are rich and the composition effectively creates 3-dimensional impact by the use of many different handmade stencils. The still life Tablescape features a central, Asian-themed bowl with many finely-detailed fruits and foliage. CONDITION: Mahogany wood gleams. The tray is strong, sturdy and very substantial. One corner seam is not as tight as the others, but this has no impact on its’ structural integrity. Handles are securely attached. Wood has some small nicks, and surface wear as to be expected for its age, but these are few and all are minor. The artwork is in excellent condition. There imagery has no spots, fading, paint loss, or discoloration. The glass is fully intact, very clear and without scratches. There is no dust or particles trapped between glass and art. The bottom of the tray has a relatively new backing of heavy black paper. This is typical for wall-hanging artwork -which might have been the reason for its use. A backing of felt would be more appropriate if the piece is to be used as a serving tray -an easy fix. This is a very clean and completely odor-free item. Ready to use, display and admire. Subjects often included foods, scenes, and symbols that were popular in the artist’s geographic area. A vogue for theorem stencil painting began in England at the turn of the 18th century. Vintage 1970s Signed Theorem Stencil Painting Primitive Folk Cat in Basket Mouse. Today we are delighted to offer for sale a lovely vintage theorem stencil painting from the 1970s! Theorem stencil, sometimes also called theorem painting or velvet painting, is the art of making stencils and using them to make drawings or paintings on fabric or paper. The art was first taught to women in academies and boarding schools throughout colonial New England. It continued to be taught into the mid-1800s in many other areas. This sweet stencil painting is done on a pale yellow or off-white velvet, and depicts a peaceful grey and brown striped tabby cat with a red bow resting in a beribboned tan and red woven basket. The basket rests in a field of green grass with small wildflowers alongside it. An inquisitive grey field mouse has climbed up the side to investigate! The cat is nicely detailed, with a dark pink nose and mouth, lighter pink inside her ears, and deep yellow eyes. It is signed “Barbara Rico, 72″. This indicates it was done in the 1970s in the style of this iconic antique artform. Painting is set in a beveled mahogany-colored and gilt wood frame with a cardboard backing, and is ready to be hung and enjoyed! Theorem presents in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. Some very minor discoloration to the velvet is present. Vintage Folk Art Painting Western Scene Cowboys Native Americans Horse Theorem

Up for sale is this fantastic vintage piece of outsider folk art painting, looks like it may be a theorem. It is signed on the border Mae Ellen Kane or Karse? I was not able to dig up any information in the artist. It looks to be pastels or chalk on linen. Its a very busy painting with tons going, there is a Native American settlement with teepees as well as a few on horseback with headdresses on. There are oxen carts, bears, an eagle, some hunters. It does show some wear, soiling and foxing. Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition. Measures about 20 1/4 x 16 1/4 framed, visible image about 15 3/8 x 10 3/8.
