This is an antique Victorian still life oil painting featuring colorful flowers nestled on a bed of leaves, dramatically displayed against a dark background. The painting measures 8″ x 10 3/4″ and is housed in a later gilt wood frame measuring 10″ x 12 3/4″. Initialed just beneath the stems on the right. On verso there is an inscription “The Herr Baron one of the stud horses of the King of Bavaria” Tudie Dennis München 1881. It is oil on wooden board and is 30 by 28 cm. The painting has scratches mostly around the horse but there is one which starts above the horse mouth and going down. Sorry, the 3 digits of the date are a bit hard to read. We ghave had another look and we think it is 8 not 2 so it was painted in 1881. Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880’s A wonderful small Norwegian kiste, or dome top blanket chest with a nicely decorated decoration on the front and dome topped with a beautiful comb paint surrounding the rest of the chest. Rosemaling (rose painting) designs and lettering. A lock is present as is the key which is a giant plus. The outer edge of this box has text painted in black. The early script is defining this as Norwegian…. If I’m incorrect please let me know. The piece is painted in the traditional manner of decorated items familiar to this era and regions. It has a natural interior with wonderful heavy ironwork hinges. Ironwork and peg construction can be seen in close-up photo. The dome top is decorated with a strong design consisting. The chest is 15 by 10 by 9.5 The overall condition of the piece is quite good and again, so very attractive. It is structurally very solid and well built. The top is still tightly attached and the hinges are holding strong. One decorative interior iron looks as the tip is broken off. The painted surface is in excellent condition although the piece has an early, old re-paint over the original by the owners descendants, and shows a light coat of shellacking and as a result protected the surface through the many years. My flash doesn’t due the piece justice. This box is as nice as they get. Very hard to find and you will wait a long time before you find another this appealing and with a working lock and key. Perfect size for almost any space. Perfect for the Scandinavian decor or as a gift. Thanks for looking and as always, visit often! The item “19th c. Italian Country small Goat Cart this antique Folk Art carved and painted with side panels is in original condition. The cart only measures 22-1/2 long, not including the one stick Runner left. (other side is broken off and gone);17 wide wheel base to wheel base. And the overall height including the turned side posts is a little over 12. This 19th century Folk Art Panel has a carved wood border depicting a historical times, all the iron is hand forged. The four Folk Art Paintings are unusual. The Folk Art paint you see on this 19. Century Goat Cart side is original and the hooks, bolts, and nuts. It does have some damage ; no wheels, missing one side runner, and the back tailgate. See photos for complete conditions.
