This beautiful original Kowalski painting was previously part of collection through Brooklyn Arts. Gallery and is in great condition. Kowalski was a Hungarian Painter born in 1926. His paintings are in the primitive or naive style of folk paintings. His vision of Village life is quite unique, and his work has been exhibited throughout Europe and the Western World. His art is also part of the permanent collection of the Stewart Galleries. With the wooden Gold Leaf Frame the painting measures 27 3/4 inches horizontal by 23 3/4 inches Vertical. REDUCED! Vintage 1977 FOLK ART Carved & Painted WHIRLIGIG/Wood Chopper/ALVIN HALL

This is a whimsical whirligig made & signed by ALVIN L. I used to live for a time in the St. Louis area and came upon Mr. Hall and his yard of whirligigs with a FOR SALE sign on his fence. He and his wife were retired and moving to Florida and he could not take his hobby whirligigs. This one is “Man Chopping Wood” and was made in 1977 and is typical of his personal style. The length of this whirligig is 36″ and the wooden propellers are 15&1/2″ across. The wood painted tail of the whirligig measures 12″ x 8″. The man is nicely carved and is 8 from his boots to the top of his hat. Hall showed me his little backyard workshop shed where he worked with simple hand tools to make his wind machines. NOTICE how when the wind moves the propeller (he has added thin metal and curved it to get more of the wind), it is attached to a metal shaft which then is bent so it goes in a rotation and Mr. Hall designed the chopper so that his upper body pivots up and down thereby “chopping his wood with his ax”. This American folk art whirligig is in mild weathered condition but that is part of the charm. It works perfectly and has no issues. I will create packaging that will be able to protect the piece during transport. The item “REDUCED! REDUCED! Mose Tolliver African-Am Folk Art BIG WATERMELON Painting Triangle, 1989

I acquired this painting and some others directly from Mose in Montgomery, Alabama in the summer of 1989. It is signed his typical backward S style and it has a pop top tab hanger. His former employer encouraged him to start painting, and Tolliver began to create images with house paint on pieces of plywood, Masonite, or old furniture. Unable to stand without crutches, he sat on his bed to paint, placing the board on his knees. Then in the 1980s Mose had a solo show at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, and was included in a folk art exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery, in Washington, D. His work is in the Collection of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art and numerous other public and private collections. The item “REDUCED!
