The artist at some point in her life was employed by the man’s parents as a housekeeper which during that time period in America this was a fairly common form of employment. It looks to be a typical small town. When I walked into the game room as soon as I peered at the painting it captured my attention much like how most of us crane our necks as we drive by an accident on the highway. It is just hard not to look. The artist according to the man ended up in some kind of asylum or institution later in her life before she passed. This qualifies as one of the more unique pieces of art that I have brought home. Measures approx 45″ inches tall by 39″ inches wide including the framework, which is approx 3 inches wide. Vintage oil painting by Oregon artist Robert Whitsell. This charming folk art-inspired seascape shows a scene from Pacific Northwest nautical history, the schooner Nena-Mosha anchored in Siletz Bay on the Oregon coast in 1912. The painting itself is most likely from the 1960s-1970s. This is presented in its original wooden frame, which is quite handsome, professionally prepared, and complements the painting very well. On the back of the canvas is a label describing the historical significance of the scene. The frame measures 19″ x 23″, and the canvas measures 16″ x 20″. What little I know about the artist is through a brief conversation with his granddaughter. He was a very prolific painter of landscapes and genre scenes inspired by Pacific Northwest history. He might have had some gallery representation in Salem, Oregon. Condition: The canvas has some tiny rough spots in an isolated area – it’s either abrasion or just inconsistency in the paint application. I can find no other problems with the painting itself. Vintage original Oil Painting by Gladys Myers Weaver — painted circa 1940s — Ms. Weaver was a talented local artist from the Dallas, Oregon area who painted with an accurate and wonderful Primitive/ Folk Art style — this work is a rendering of a happy day at home in Pioneer America, possibly a view from the childhood of the artist: there is an incredible amount of detail in this picture from the Grandmother knitting, Dad stoking the fire, Mom nursing the baby, with her older girl looking on curiously-you can even see the outhouse through the open door, all on a spring day — the painting is quite large and painted on board, screwed to a wood frame — the painting measures about 48 by 53 in. // the frame is slightly larger — — a friend of mine is listing another work by Ms. Weaver that is quite interesting. As with any painting hanging for years this is moderately soiled, plus has a couple of small holes — would benefit from professional cleaning. Thank you for visiting our site.
