Late 19th Century (or early 20th) oil painting of a prize Longhorn Cow standing in a field, mounted in a fine maple frame. Naive, oil on board prize cow painting mounted in fine maple veneer frame. English, dating from the 1890s or early 1900s. Condition: in very good condition throughout, with still strong vibrant colours, no flaking or cracks. Dimensions: 15″ x 12″ (38cm x 27cm). American Folkart Ship Portrait, 1850’s, original maple frame, Gouache, sign E. W

It was painted circa 1850 and is done in watercolor and gouache. This came to us in what appears to be the original maple frame. The painting measures 18 1/2X27 inches. It is initialed in the lower left corner as E. The overall painting is in good shape, there are two areas of toning which certainly came from the original wooden backing boards. This came to us framed, we have not taken it apart. The maple has a flaw in the bottom right corner but for its age the colors are still rich, a highly detailed work. The overall frame measures 21 1/2X29 1/2 inches. We guarantee that this is a genuine period painting and not a repro or modern depiction. C1840 Excellent Large Birdseye Maple Veneer Folk Primitive 21 x 31 Painting Frme

This is an outstanding large c1840 birdseye maple veneered frame. S trongly stippled birdseye veneer on flat, canted molding with excellent color. The frame is in great condition with a few minor losses and measures 25 1/8 x 35 1/2 with a 21 1/2 x 31 1/4 rabbet. Constructed with square nailed, mitered corners and oxidized mustard color painted sides. A great frame for a painting or portrait as it has a deep rabbet. Vtg Cigar Smoking BULLDOG Painting THEOREM Folk Art BIRDS-EYE MAPLE FRAME Signed

This fabulous original Theorem painting is skillfully executed and beautifully framed. It is signed and dated, “Trish Brady 1985″, at the lower right corner. The comical folk art depicts an especially dapper, cigar-smoking Bulldog wearing a dark red bow tie and stiff white stand-up collar. He is posed between a tall pilsner glass of beer and an old-fashioned chamberstick candleholder which holds a lit candle. A box of matches with a two loose match sticks are portrayed in the foreground. He three dimensional effect and fine details were created using multiple handmade stencils. The rich, muted colors are particularly effective as is the skilled use of shadows and shading. This art is in excellent condition. There is no fading or paint loss and the imagery is spotless. The birds-eye maple frame complements the style and coloration of the artwork perfectly. Structurally, the frame is strong and sturdy -all seams are tight and there is no damage along the edges or on the corners. The only imperfection we discovered is a diagonal surface scratch on the glass which is located above the dog’s head (although it does not reach that far). This does not particularly stand out except under scrutiny -please see the magnified photo provided (2nd to last). The frame is backed with butcher block paper and will require appropriate hardware for hanging. There are two drilled holes on the back of the frame at top left, but they do not impact the structural integrity of the frame. This is a very clean and completely odor-free item. Ready to display and admire. Oil painting on fabric (traditionally velvet) using handmade stencils. Stencils are overlaid to create. Three-dimensional, very distinctive, primitive-style artwork. The design is bridgelessthere are no gaps in between the overlays. Subjects often included foods, scenes, and symbols that were popular in the artist’s geographic area. A vogue for theorem stencil painting began in England at the turn of the 18th century. The art was taught to women in academies and boarding schools throughout colonial New England.
