This is a wonderful piece of Folk Art or painted art from a roadside stand in Indiana. This ear of corn is hand painted on an old wooden ironing board and was hung on a wall as a trade sign for a corn farm stand. This is a unique one of a kind piece of art. The sign dates from somewhere in the early to mid 20th century and is in wonderful condition. The surface shows some age and the mounting holes show very wear which indicates that the sign would have been taken down in the off season. The ear of corn is 53 7/8″ tall x 15″ wide and could be hung both vertically or horizontally. Like us on face book. Early 20th Century SPOOKY Folk Art Boy Painting. Frame is dated Mar. 4 1957 but the painting is much older. Framed has some minor damage (see pictures). The inscription on the back reads: Portrait of Frank King ca. 1915, he died in 1980, grew up in Mystic Conn. What a fun sign, painted solid wood with an old worn surface. The one side that faced the weather is more faded than the other, as would be expected. The shape is great as is the detail of the painted surface. I think next to Pennsylvania, New Jersey might have the most roadside stands and markets. And Jersey corn is almost as good as PA’s. Uh oh, gonna get some comments. A great piece of Americana and folk art. The sign is 45″ long x 12″ high x 3/4 thick and has two iron loops to hang it by. Got this from a guy from New Jersey in a field, how appropriate. Like us on face book.
