Antique Circus Carnival Door Light Sign Advertising Camel Signed Oil Painted Art. Offered here is an amazing antique circus piece in need of restoration. This piece appears to be a door of some sort and has a beautiful painted camel on it. The wood door has an interesting shape and you can see the where it wouldve been mounted kind of like a door. It also has old light sockets around the outside and mustve looked stunning when light up in the golden age of circuses and carnivals. A helpful eBayer has identified it as a panel form a. And Antique Dentzel Carousel. It appears that the original panel painting of “caution” was painted over with this camel in order to jazz it up, or the caution has faded over time while the rest of the painting has not. Unfortunately, the oil painting portions have suffered damage over the years and need the care and skill of a restorer if you want the sign back in original condition though keeping it the way it is has it its own perks of knowing it has never been touched in terms of restoration as well. Well leave that up to you. I also do not think the light sockets (where present) are likely to still work. The piece has been signed (bottom right) but I cannot read the name of the artist that painted the camel. Bout 81″ tall and about 42″ wide at the widest point near the top. EARLY AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE CARNIVAL GAMING WHEEL GAME OF CHANCE WOODEN BICYCLE WHEEL. The wheel itself is all original with some nicks and scuffs here or there. We’re guessing that this is from the early 1900’s but we don’t know. On one side it’s yellow with black letters and blue trim. On the other side, you can pretty much just see the yellow wood part. The numbers on the front side range from 1 to 120 and start with 1, 21, 41, 61, 81, and 101, then 2, 22, 42, etc. We don’t know what game this would have been but this old wheel, mounted on a bicycle rim has great character and charm! The wheel measures 31.5 across and weighs about 8.5 lbs. The bicycle wheel measures 25 across. The pins around the wheel are metal, rust, strong and even somewhat sharp if you catch them wrong. The paint on the wheel is crazed, alligator-ed, worn, scuffed, nicked, marked and patina-ed… Just the way we love it! The bicycle wheel and the spokes are rusty, crazed and scuffed. The outside rim of the bicycle wheel is wood… Which could date it from as far back 1869 when they started making bicycle wheels made from metal spokes and wooden rims. Later, the rims went to metal so it’s likely that at some point, someone took an old wheel and made this game wheel. We don’t know the age of this item but we wish it could talk! This important historic one-of-a-kind mid to late 19Th century European hand carved and painted wooden deer amusement ride is one of the earliest produced for children’s carousels or merry-go-rounds and would have been at a fair or carnival. It’s truly a museum quality piece and has been owned and displayed in one for decades. Hand carved wood, two-sided, original paint with beautiful coloring and detail, resting on a cast iron base, all make this the perfect unique, attractive one-of-a kind decorative piece. It has been owned and featured in numerous exhibits in the museum for decades. Retains location tag from the museum. This is from one of the earliest examples of the modern platform style carousel, called dobbies, that were invented in the mid 19th century. Wood Carved Painted Folk Art Sculpture. Circa Late 19th Century. A truly stunning piece of fold art sculpture that probably came from a circus wagon or other carnival item. Measuring 16″ x 6″ and 2 m /4 thick, this solid wood sculpture features a caped warrior on horseback slaying a large serpent as winged figures observe on either side and a religious figure gives prayer to the warriors right. Most likely this piece came from a circus wagon or other carnival related item. The sculpture was part of some larger piece connected together at the top and bottom.
