Antique 1880’s New England Early American Folk Art Child’s Sled. The Fantastic Early American Folk Art Child’s Sled is painted Red with Yellow Pin Striping & White Daisy Style Flowers. In the center are Two (2) Birds sitting on a Branch with Cherries. The Sled is Oak with Metal Runners over an Oak Framework. The Side Boards are Pegged. Don’t miss the chance to own this fantastic example of Early American Folk Art! USED CONDITION: There are the normal scruffs & scratches to the sled due to lots of use. There is a split lengthwise in the red body of the sled. There are pencil markings on the underneath side of the body. The split has been glued. The wood runner on one (1) has been broken & glued in two (2) spots at the upright post. The other runner has additional metal attached to both sides of the wood runner at the last upright post. There are some chips of wood missing & hairline cracks here & there. There are several holes in the body that do not go clear through the wood. The red paint is worn & missing in spots. RARE 1880s O/C FOLK ART STILL LIFE PAINTING HANGIN TROUT FISH FISHING ADIRONDACK

This is a rare and fantastic, super nice piece of early American primitive folk art. An oil on canvas still life painting, ca 1880’s to 1890’s, depicting a string – or 2 sticks really, of speckled trout. Quite possibly upstate NY or New Hampshire but could be from anywhere with woods and fish. The painting has nice colors with a great subject matter. It is a fresh find gleaned from a long time private collection, and comes in sweet, as found condition, with no cleaning or restoration of any kind on my or the previous owners end. Attic fresh so to speak. It comes framed in a period Adirondack type wooden Oak & Gesso frame with old stretcher & with old nails, all appropriate to the time period. The stretcher was a little loose in the frame so a couple modern screws were added to the back of the frame to better secure the painting. This can be easily changed should someone wish to. The painting is unsigned but seems pretty well done. Framed it is 25.5 tall and 17.5. Not much of any issues at all for its age, just one little stretcher edge split in the canvas as pictured… About 3/4 long and some lite finish wear. This painting will make a nice addition to any folk art collection or to any wall in general. Its a nice find! Any questions PLEASE ask! Antique 1880s New England Folk Art Carved Painted Puzzle Balls Cage Whimsy aafa

Woodcarving has been a popular art form in the United States since Europeans immigrated to North America in the 1600s and brought their trade along with them. In the 1700s, hand carvers began to build highly decorative wooden furniture. By the mid1800s, hand carving as a business venture began to decline when carving machines offered greater production at a lower cost. Many hand carvers turned to “Whimsies” projects as an art form. We are pleased to offer this Antique Carved Wooden Paint Decorated Folk Art Balls in a Puzzle Cages Whimsy from New England circa 1880s for your consideration. The Wooden Carved Whimsy has intricate carved workmanship and was carved by a master woodworker. The Wooden Carved Whimsy has two separate cages. The top cage is of rectangular shape and retains a green painted original surface. The wooden puzzle ball is painted white. The bottom cage of the Wooden Carved Whimsy is also painted green with a larger red wooden puzzle ball inside of the rectangular cage. Both of the rectangular cages sit on a turned paint decorated base with a large metal spike. The age of the whimsy can be seen by the dry age crack in the wooden base. The whimsy is strong and sturdy and is not affected by the dry age crack at the base which only adds character and authenticity to the Antique Folk Art. The Balls in the Cages Whimsy was carved from a single piece of wood and the base was turned from a separate piece of wood. The Wooden Carved Whimsy is in excellent condition and has age appropriate patina. 21 Inches High, 5 Inches Wide, and 5 Inches Deep.
