Unknown artist American Folk Art painting of George Washington’s Tomb at Mount Vernon in the manner of Prior or Gravilly. Painted in the early 19th Century about 1830’s. Oil on Canvass stretched on board. Out side measures 21 1/4″ x 27 1/4″ with interior of 17 1/4″ x 23 1/4″. Paint is bright light crazing. This sponge decorated chest measures 28″ long, by 14″ front to back, and is 11-3/4 tall to the high part of the dome top. The trunk has its original old sheet steel lock (missing hasp and key) butt hinges, wonderful old dovetails, with cut nails. Trunk features sponge decoration on all four sides, and the top. Main color is dark green. Old age related scuffs, partial split on one of the top boards. A beautiful antique dome top for your collection or display. Description & Condition: Up for sale is this wonderful antique circa 1830 Folk art portrait painting of a woman in a green dress. She has dark hair and is sitting in a red chair holding a pink flower in her hand. It is not signed but has fine details. It measures 33″ by 25″ and is in a gilt wood frame that measures 38 1/2″ by 30 1/2″. The painting has an old reline and some minor touch ups to the paint. This is really a nice portrait!
