Up for sale is this Antique Riley Whiting of Winchester, Connecticut Tall Case Clock Dial. Likely 1820s maybe a bit earlier or later. Shows considerable wear and soiling. The dark edges are the result of being used in an ill fitting case. Has some areas of paint wear and loss. Two small nail tips poking through between 9 &10 and 1 &2. Measures about 16 1/8 x 11 7/8. 1820’s CLASSIC MOURNING PAINTING FOLK ART Historic DALRYMPLE Mass. FAMILY

This is an outstanding and dramatic folk art mourning watercolor painting in its original period gold leaf frame. Memorialized are members of of tne Dalrymple family of Massachussetts: Sally age 9 who died April 7, 1810 (of spotted fever I discovered); William age 30 who died Dec. 14, 1811 (while traveling to Quebec); Henry age 29 years who died May 22, 1814 (of bullet wounds while serving in the United States Army in the War of 1812); and Ann 27 years old who died Sept. 5, 1825 (of Dysentary). There is a note at the bottom of the painting indicating that the information was provided by Eliza Dalrymple their youngest sister – who became a teacher in Marlborough, Mass. I quickly found the historical information on the internet in the William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan. By the way, Henry was a cooper in Watertown, Mass. Antique 1820s NE Folk Art Miniature Painted Wooden Windsor Rocking Chair aafa

A Windsor chair is a chair built with a solid wooden seat into which the chair-back and legs are round-tenoned, or pushed into drilled holes, in contrast to standard chairs, where the back legs and the uprights of the back are continuous. The seats of Windsor chairs were often carved into shallow dish or saddle shape for comfort. We are pleased to offer this Antique Miniature Painted Decorated Handmade Wooden Windsor Spindle Rocking Chair from New England, circa 1820 to 1840. The Antique Miniature Rocking Chair was decorated by the Best New England traditional red paint with a band of gold that adorns the wooden seat front. The painted surface has an alligator finish as seen on the spindles (see photos). The Windsor Rocking Chair is a perfect darling miniature size and can sit table top being 14 1/2 inches in height and is 8 inches at the widest. The Antique Windsor Miniature Rocking Chair has a classic spindle shape with the rockers and spindles being strong and sturdy. There is an old strong repair on the shaped wooden seat that adds character and authenticity to the early rocker. A closer look will reveal a few soft puppy bite indentions on one of the antique rockers. These all are beautiful characteristics of use and age and does not diminish the beauty of this early miniature that is well over 150 years. The Antique Windsor Miniature Rocking Chair is in strong and sturdy condition with age appropriate wear and patina. They just do not get any more endearing than this classic New England Miniature. 18 1/2 Inches High, 13 Inches Wide, and 13 Inches Deep.
