The children appear to be playing a game of horse riding-the older girl is carrying on her back a younger child who has lost one of her shoes. And is holding up a bunch of flowers. The boy to the left of the painting is holding the reins. The frame measures 23. Wide x 28 1/2. The painting measures 17 1/2. Condition notations: Surface grime, craquelure, toning, grime. The wood board upon which the painting is done appears to have been found material and has a raised area mid-right side edge which has some sort of fasteners, as shown last two photos. There is some minor paint loss on this area as shown. Period frame with appliqué cartouche corner spandrels. The frame retains it. S original gilt surfaces; there is minor wear and narrow finish loss as shown mid- left side.
