A beautiful antique painted lidded carved wooden box. Judging by the style, I would think the box originates from Eastern Europe, early C20th and entirely hand made and painted. Designed to hang upon the wall, for candles or perhaps salt, the box has a bird carved decorative back and the vessel itself has been decorated with flowers and other birds. Has a repaired split along the length of the back and some paint chips, it is nonetheless a fabulous example of folk art of the period and region. Measures 36cm wide and 32cm tall – the box is 13cm deep. Has recently fitted brass wall fixings to aid mounting. Happy to send worldwide.
