For sale is an antique Folk Art portrait painting of a woman. This painting is attributed to William Jennys. William Jennys was one of the many itinerant painters who traveled throughout New England in the 18 and 19 centuries, seeking commissions in smaller towns in rule areas. Two works attributed to him portrait of a man 1802 1805 and portrait of a woman 1802 to 1805 contain bear backgrounds, broadly molded faces, strongly suggesting this style of Jennys. The couples features are blunt, their hair is not a specially neat or done and both are dressed in clothing of good quality, but slightly out of fashion, suggesting that they live close to, but not in, and urban center at the turn of the 19th century. Jennys painted his portraits in ovals, that was another signature of his work. This portrait has a wax lining and has been re-lined many years ago.
